Marshall Losey Ward was born in Schooley's Mountain, NJ in 1840 (exact date unknown), the 8th child and 4th son, to Nancy Guerin (nee Lawrence) and Daniel Harvey Ward. He lived in New Jersey his entire life until his death on September 2, 1892.
Marshall served honorably for 9 months as a corporal for the Union Army in the American Civil War in Company H of the 31st New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. The unit did not see any significant action except at Chancellorsville, where they fought bravely.
After the war, Marshall returned to New Jersey and married Mary Elizabeth (nee Sharp) and together they raised 6 children in Hackettstown. He was described as "very kindly, very honest, and an extremely sociable man".
Marshall held various jobs including farmer and marble cutter for the TY Ward Company (which he co-founded). He was a successful salesman for the company until, unfortunately, one day an accidental cut to his leg by an axe swung by his son Earnest, led to an infection requiring an amputation. Since he could no longer ride a horse, he eventually became a switchboard operator. for the Pennsylvania Telephone Co.

Born January 27, 1803 in New Jersey to Moses Mount Ward and Rachel Aiken (nee Crane), as the 5th of 6 children. He married Nancy Geurin (nee Lawrence) in 1827 and raised 11 children together. He worked as a cooper and a wheelwright. He died at age 86 and is buried in the Union Cemetery at Hackettstown, NJ.

Born in 1807 in New Jersey, to Jacob Lawrence and Jane (nee Guerin), she was the 3rd of 13 children. The family was a mix of German (Lorentz) and French. Her G-G-Great grandfather was born in St Nazaire, France in 1685 and emigrated to America, around age 20, to South Carolina when the Huguenots fled religious persecution under King Louis XIV.

The father of Daniel Harvey Ward - Moses Mount Ward - is shrouded in mystery, partly due to the loss of records in the War of 1812. Even more so is his (likely) father, Nathaniel Ward. Work continues to clarify the exact lineage.
